Music and tech in Tokyo

Here’s a little fun video I took while hanging out at Tokyo Hackerspace yesterday with Akiba, Deeana and Raphael. Deeana and Raphael have just finished their last leg of their Japan tour and are heading back to New York today. Raphael graciously bought a bunch of components for the Hackerspace. He then proceeded to sort out and cleanup the general mess of electronics that has been hiding in the nether regions of the cupboards.

I’ll hopefully interview them on their trip to Japan for Learn Japanese Pod.

Enjoy.

I’ve been busy updating the Learn Japanese Pod site of which the latest addition is Kana Invaders a game for learning Hiragana and Katakana. Recently, Jamaipanese was kind enough to make this little video about it. Enjoy.

This evening I was jamming with my talented singer-songwriter buddy Keita. Here are two of his songs he’s been working on recently. You can usually find us on Thursday nights at Cozmo’s Cafe in Shibuya. You can see some of our videos here.

Here’s a recording of my student and I attempting some Green Day. Enjoy.

Here’s a rocking blast from the past I recorded…I forget how long ago. I’m posting it here to remind myself to get back into the studio and record some more guitar.

For you audio engineering nerds this was done on a lap top using Logic Guitar Amp Pro, not a bad little set up.

Recently I’ve been playing around with Audio Boo, a podcasting application for the iPhone. I like the simplicity of it. There are no edit functions so if you are playing music which I am, you have to get it all in one take. That’s good practice for getting your performance tight. It even sets up an automatic iTunes podcast feed.

I’ll be posting some more performances on my axe here soon. Check out my iTunes feed here.
