I’m going to be putting updates to the progress of an eco housing project I’m involved with here in Yamanashi Japan.

これから環境に優しい建物を作るプロジェクトについて日記を書きます。

 

Where: Earth Embassy, Yamanashi, Japan

どこ：Earth Embassy,（地球大使館）山梨

 

What: To build an environmentally sustainable structure which will serve as a green house and lodge for visitors to stay in and learn about organic farming and permaculture.

 

何：環境に優しい建物を作るプロジェックト。温室と宿泊の役目を果たす建物です。

 

Why: Why not? Besides, it’s fun and I get to learn about environmentally sustainable building techniques, plus I get to escpae my crazy life in Tokyo and get some fresh healthy air.

 

なんで？：環境の優しいライフを勉強することができて、東京を抜き出せて、自然で友達と楽しい時間を過ごすこともできます。

 

How: The basic design will be loosely based on Earthship technology using local recycled materials. We’ll be doing workshops and the participants will help to build it. I’ll be providing more information about participating as soon as I get it.

 

どうやって？：Earthship technologyに基づいて人を集めて毎月セミナーでエコハウスを作ります。

 

DAY 01 Friday 8th May 2009

Although we had talked about this before with Jake, the manager of the Earth Embassy, today felt like the first day of the beginning of this project. We managed to find some old tires from a house Jake is currently working on and transported them to the site. Jake, Natsuko and I surveyed the area and discussed some possible designs for the roof which will probably be the biggest technical challenge for us. Some ideas are:

今日古いタイヤを集めて、エコハウスの場所に置きました。これから屋根のデザインについてを話し合って決めます。３つのオプションがあります。

 

1) A roof using a metal framework: easy and cheap to build but not very pretty and maybe not so good for insulation in winter

金属の棒をさしてビニールで被せます。

 

2) A bamboo roof: Easy to make, very strong and cheap. We haven’t located any bamboo yet but it would probably be pretty embarrassing if we couldn’t find some bamboo in Japan

竹でできた屋根。

 

3) A heavy duty roof based on Earthship technology with a south facing passive solar window. Pretty hard technically and will require a lot of materials

Earthship technologyに基づいた屋根。とても大きいで作りにくいかも。

 

STUFF TO DO:

これからやらなければならないこと

i) Finish a flyer for the workshops we will be running to construct the eco house.
